My Media Log

Time of day: 4:00 pm
Medium specific products: CD player, Magazine, book, internet
Total Time spent: about 4 hours

I have now observed that I am a Huge Media consumer, Now I realize that I am constantly using the media every day sometimes more than 4 hours, its definitely a surprise. I know without the media My life would be very boring. The media has a great impact on today's youth anyway, we are Constantly using cell phones, internet reading magazines. This is how we stay informed on things that are going on in the world, a great example of this is the television some of us watch the news everyday. Media is everywhere around us, it is almost impossible to escape it. When I did my own media log I discovered that if I Consume that much media in a day I can only imagine how much I Consume in a year it will definitely be interesting. Sometimes I wonder can to much of anything be good? Has this world gotten so dependent on the media that if it weren't existent anymore our lives would be so different? Maybe we would learn to appreciate the simplicity of things, but the media is existent an I think we as people are fuel feeding to its engine.

Rap Music

Some people might say that music is way of exspressing one's thoughts and feelings lyrically, whether it's rock, pop, country and the most controversal Genre Rap. Rap has been around since the early 70's and some believe that it is here to stay. Rap aritist say The world of hip hop is not just music it's a lifestyle. Though Rap is enjoyed by many, (mostly youth) There is still many who don't agree with the concepts of rap music by calling it degrading to wemon and saying that it only promotes violence instead of stopping it. The media says that it is sending the wrong message to today's youth. The RIAA and the National parent Teacher association started putting parental advisory stickers on albums with Exsplicit lyrics hoping to stop the youth from buying theses cd's, but in my exsperience it does nothing but intirgue the youth more, The reality is that you see more violence on the news than you see in a rap video. This has really put the hip hop community in a bad situation. I think that the media is using rap as scape goat for what is already happining in the world. I believe that all youth will ecounter some form of violence regardless of how many times the word shot or Gun is heard or seen in a video. This is a free country people should be able to exspress their feelings to the public freely. A Rapper is similar to a peot the only difference is their just Talking to a melody. Does this mean we should start putting parental Advisory on peoms too? The controversy over rap music has gotten way out of hand, Neverless hip hop and music in general will always be apart of the youth today.
